All Striped OUT! - Part Duex?

If stripes are not your thing, you may want to steer clear of me this month! This is the 3rd room that I have done in 2 weeks that has them. I just think that they are timeless, although they are a major pain in the butt to paint. But so worth it! We turned this from a boys room, to a girls room really quick just with some paint. It really is amazing. We didn't buy accessories or anything, just used what we had. Don't try this at home unless you have lot of tape and even more patience. Holy Cow...btw - PURPLE is back. Its true. I saw it on HGTV; so it is fact...

All Striped OUT!

Stripes seems to be the theme lately for me. I love the simplicity of them, but I have never done this before-a 6 color stripe. It was intense. Good thing it was just under the railing, cuz it would have taken me all week. 8 rolls of tape later, this is what we ended up with. I can't blame the client, because these are always my crazy ideas.

Don't stop in the playroom. I wanted to carry the color theme into the bedroom, since it was right next to it and I thought we could make it flow and make sense. We did a "surfer girl" themed striped around the room. It looks simple, but actually one mess up on this guy can throw the whole thing off. I know this because I messed it up, not once, but twice! Those dang textured walls don't help either. But when a little girl says that it is the room she has always dreamed of, that makes you feel pretty good.

I don't get the oppurtunity to do as many staging jobs as I do others. My friend from San Antonio called and asked me to stage her house to get it sold. I had 2 days to transform her space, and transform we did.

In 2 days and under $1000 (supply only), we made some crazy changes. I think that this house will sell within a couple weeks. We shall see. When I staged that 1.2 million dollar loft downtown it had been on the market for 6 months w/ no potential buyers. It sold 2 weeks after it was complete. It is amazing what a little paint and decor can do.

We didn't decorate due to budget constraints, but we painted the whole house (baseboards included), replaced the kitchen floor, spray painted bathroom light fixtures, replaced remaining light fixtures and painted the front door. The only anti-climatic event; she doesn't get to stay in her beautiful home! That is why you should do these things far before you plan on selling, so that you can enjoy it.

Remember my Ol' Cowboy?

Good Ol' Walter. Cowboy to the core, almost; nevermind, you had to be there. Anyways, this client has completely gutted this little ol' house down by Dons Barbeque. He has done an amazing job. If you like country antiques, you would be in heaven. I finally got over there to take a picture of his progression. He has done some amazing things w/ the rest of his house, but this is all I was responsible for, so I will keep it at that.

I painted the fireplace (inside and out), tiled it, and painted his ceilings an actual color instead of white. Pics never do justice, but it really made all the difference. We also replaced the mantel with a beautiful naughty pine one.

The Everlasting Paint Job!

So my whole month of February was consumed by this job. Warning to all - do NOT use Valspar Signature paint! Even if they give it to you...I am telling you, I have almost no hair left in my head to pull!

The story:
So in February, Lowes (I am pretty religious about buying my paint there) had a special on their Valspar Signature paint. I use Valspar Ultra Premium for ALL my paint jobs, so I am very familiar with this product and base tone. But they were doing a rebate on the other, and they talked me into getting it. It just had to be this job, right? I had 15 gallons mixed to paint this house. I painted for a week and began to realize that when I went back to touch up, the paint was a different color. I mean a totally different color! My paint jobs are 1 coat + touch up, that is what the client pays for and that is what they get. This is never a problem with Valspar, because it is a high quality 1 coat paint. But if the touch up doesn't work, that ='s painting the room all over again. Or in this case, painting the house all over again. Plus the cost of paint.

I know this may be a very boring story, but I am recording it mainly for myself so that I will NEVER forget. I got to paint this house, not only once, but twice. Good thing that my mom was still here and I hired her to help me. I think I would have bailed, honestly. It was pretty bad.
Good news is I got to pick out new fixtures and some decor for the client too. He is a bachelor and needed a little help. All in all, was a positive experience. Thought I should post:

i mean, i am not going to say that i save people lives, but if you still have brass in your house, please get rid of it. i really think that it may lead to depression, cancer, and may even lead to death. it is horrifying. my client agreed and he let me change them out.

LIVING AREA/KITCHEN

yeah, still screams bachelor pad, but bachelor pad with a lil pizazz! right? not sure what went on in this faux finished kitchen, but we fixed her right up. all i can say is wow! that was some golden paint there. and no bachelor pad can be complete without blue, right? WRONG! no disrespect, really. i am sure that it had its time. more often then not, i look at pictures of my house from 2 years ago and want to barf a bit...its just the way it is.

so there is nothing unusual or spendirific about this bathroom, other than I learned that instead of plastering over wallpaper, you can just texture, and i found the perfect guy to do it! so excited about this new idea. it will save me hours of tedious troweling in my future.

Bullfrogs & Butterflys

So, I know that I haven't posted in a long time. That is because I don't think that I have had any jobs worth posting. Things were really busy up until Spring Break, but just paint jobs - nothing to write home about. But I got to do my favorite thing this week...kids rooms, Love them!~ Why? Cuz you really can't mess them up. The client is always super happy.
This was a little bedroom that I did for a brother and sister. The idea was to find a color pallette that was unisex and bedding (within a pretty small budget) that went together without having to sew. Can be a chunk to swallow, but I think that I accomplished it. There is always more that I want to do, but this was a really great start for this family.

**The brown around the room is ribbon, not paint, hung up with colored thumb tacks. Way simple to do and you don't have to worry about those paint lines on textured walls.

Complete Nursery

A couple of weeks ago, I painted this nursery for Olivia, a new baby girl in Meridian. Somehow, I talked her mom into letting me decorate the whole nursery. It was such a fun job. Can't go wrong with nursery's right?
