500 Days of Summer

Finally, a movie worth reviewing! Yay...We saw this Saturday night at the Drafthouse. It is a Sundance movie and had a lot of meat. It was very eclectic and interesting. What I loved most is that it was very unpredictable. I definitely insist that you go see it. Not just a recommendation. For me it is the most memorable movie this year. I don't want to over hype it, but I did really love it. So if you are in the mood for a good romantic comedy, this is it for you.

Harry Potter

So, I am not a big fan of Harry Potter. I have tried to read the books and can not get into them. We own all the movies and my kids will watch one occasionally, so I have seen bits and pieces, but don't know the complete story line or character build up. However, we had to get out yesterday. I have been stuffed in my house since surgery almost 2 weeks ago.

I thought the movie was good. It definitely went to credits a little too soon, yet a little too late for me. It was a 3 hour ordeal, which post surgery was too long, but I think it would have been a little long even feeling well. But I still left feeling like I had no closure. I realize there is a couple movies still to come, but I felt very unfulfilled.

All in all, I really liked the romantic comedy that they brought in to this one. I was laughing pretty hard throughout. I think Harry Potter fans will really love it. It did get a PG rating which I think it needed to be PG-13 like the rest of them. There were some scarys - even Dylan was closing his eyes.

Transformers 2

Well, what can I say? We have been waiting (in our household) for the highly anticipated Transformers 2. I mean Dylan has been counting down the days for months. We told him early on not to get his hopes up, because until the reviews came out, or we saw it, we were unsure if he would even be able to watch it. Especially in light of the recent "masturbation" comment made at school that came from where? Transformers 1!

Please explain to me why we promote these movies for the kiddos, making toys, etc. and then think that we need to fill it with sex, nudity, and language? Really? So needless to say, he will not be seeing this at the theatre, and he cryed for an entire day last week.

We did, however, go see it Friday night. Lots of kids there, a few toddlers sitting behind us. Do your research before you take them, I am tellin' ya. I felt that they were really pushing it for a plot. I really could have cared less what happened, that is about how sucked into it I was. It was bascially a lot of metal carnage and a lot of 1/2 naked beautiful girls. So if you are into that sort of thing, the $8.50 will be a great investment for you.

All I have to say is that I walked out of there wanting to get eyelash extensions like McKayla (the girlfriend), but mostly, I really just want a good movie to come out.

Year One

So it has been awhile since I have talked about a movie. We usually try and catch a flick a week, so we pretty much see them all. We saw this Friday night and I thought maybe I should blog about it since many of you in my circle may plan on seeing it.

Umm, pretty terrible. Really, with a cherry on the top. You pretty much catch all the funny parts in the trailer. On a scale of 1-10, I give it a 9.5 for crudeness; which says a lot cuz I can be pretty crude, and find some crudeness pretty dang funny. This went WAY overboard.

It also took a very biblical approach that I didn't expect. Not only crude, very blasphemous throughout. I am a Michaela Cera fan and do like Jack Black, so I did catch myself laughing quite a bit, but I don't think that I would recommend it to a friend. It takes quite a lot to make me uncomfortable, and I was covering my eyes and twisting in my seat through most the movie. Let me just say when they decided to take a journey towards Sodom and Gomorrah, I got very edgy....Uck!

Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day

Well the options were slim last night...10,000 BC (which is every girls dream) or Miss Pettigrew. Since Addison was home sick, we decided to see the show that started first. This was it! I thought it was pretty cute. A little predictable, but cute none the less. Amy Adams, who also stars in "Enchanted" plays the lead roll. I am beginning to wonder how far her acting career will go. She was really great, and so darling that you want to squeeze her, but almost too sweet! Like, what other kind of roll can she play? It had a good message and was cheerful. I am sure 10,000 BC isn't off the "to see" board, so I will be reporting on that soon! As far as this flick, I give it 3 stars!

Simply Scandelous

We went to The Other Boleyn Girl last night and holy cow! Unexpected craziness. I guess if you have read the book, you know exactly what to expect, but I had not. I personally loved it and would recommend it to those not afraid of a little sex, scandal, beheading, adultery, lust, deception, and boobs crunched tightly into corsets. If you dig this stuff, it is perfect for you. If it makes you blush, stay far away.

Fred Claus

Fred Claus is coming to town! And, honestly, I am a little disappointed. I am a Vince Vaughn fan - but this definately was not all it was cracked up to be. I would definately save your money for another festive flick! Not that it was all bad, definately worthy of a rental, but not so much at the big screen. They pretty much showed all the humor in the previews, so check that out and you will have the "411".

Apparently that night, Stephanie and I, did have the "411" and showed up in the same outfit (pretty much). Steve took a great picture of our butt, but since hers is a lot smaller than mine, I am not posting. These are our big muscle men. Aren't they cute?

Bee Movie

For F.H.E. last night, we took the kids to Bee Movie, and I gave it a B! It was just okay. I love Renee Zelweger though, and her character was really cute. I had no idea what this movie was about, all the annoying clips of it in the theatres didn't give it away. So I was wondering the whole time where this was going? I may have just been a little tired and out of "child movie" patience, but for me it was a little LLLLLOOOOONNNNNGGGG. Not in a time sort of way, but more in a mental "get me outta here" sort of way.

I would rent this feature. After all, it was $60 for popcorn, slushies, and tickets. We only go all the way in this family. There will be no halvsies! Your kids will enjoy it though and, afterall, that is what counts! But I would save my Movie Money for something like Enchanted or Fred Claus...

Martian Child

We went and saw Martian Child last night. It was a bit slow going, but very cute. John Cusack plays a single windower that decides to adopt a troubled child who thinks he is from the planet Mars. Joan Cusack plays John sister in the movie, which was very natural!

I liked it because I found Cusack to be very Real...He is not like a movie actor. He is very average looking, so I can just relate to him more. I don't know. The kid was totally adorable too. I give it 3 out of 5 stars. If you are not a movie goer, maybe this would be a good rental.

Best Movie of the Year

Okay, so I know that it is a bold statement to say Best Movie of the Year, but for me it was. Dan in Real Life was a surprise for me. Although I love Steve Carell, this was very unexpected. If you have not seen the preview yet, I recommend that you DON'T watch it! I had not seen it yet and the movie was a complete surprise to me, which is better in my opinion.

I have seen a lot (I mean a lot) of flicks this year. This one seemed to hit every nerve in my body. And even after drinking about 64 ounces of diet coke, I sat through 60 minutes of this show with a completely full bladder. I didn't want to miss anything. The comedy was not over-the-top, and was very relatable. A little pee came out when I laughed, and a lot of tears when I cryed. Seriously a MUST see. Even if you don't like the movies!

At the Movies

So last Friday we went with our movie buddies (Stephanie and lance) and saw Elizabeth: The Golden Age. We thought we were going to see Dan in Real Life, but we were a week early. Who knew! So we bought tickets for The Comebacks and then decided we didn't really want to see that too much and snuck into Elizabeth. Sorry, it was a very confusing night.

I am glad that we snuck in though. I was surprised to find out what a great movie it was. Very historical! Although I really do not like to have to overstimulate my brain too much on a Friday night after being with the kids all week, this was worth it. You really had to pay attention to the movie to figure out what was going on, you can not veg (like I normally do). Other than the fact they show Elizabeth's butt and it is way cuter that mine has ever been - no it has been that cute...when I was 3 years old!; I give this movie 4 stars. You will also get some great tips for your hair do's - and don'ts. I found it very interesting and felt a bit stupid that I had no idea that these things happened. I guess I was vegging in History Class!
