10 Years Anniversary
I can't believe it has been this long. I finally got pictures from our old computer and thought that it would be fun to post these. I hate the camera, so these are some of the few pictures that we even have of us together. We went to Florida for 6 days and had a blast - without the kids of course. Picture of us on the plane...
Since we were by ourselves, most of the pictures were taken by us. Yes, they are a bit dorky and so are 3-D movies. Gotta love 'em.
Candice trys to get attacked by a dinosaur, but he thinks his eyes might be bigger than his stomach. He let me go.
Never leave for vacation without a good pair of extensions!
Sea World FUN!
We took the kids to Sea World on Saturday. We thought it was going to rain, but somehow we escaped it. They had a great time. We spent the whole day at the waterpark. It was a blast. The kids were so tired that at dinner time, Addison fell asleep right on her plate. I couldn't get my camera to work fast enough! I missed that great picture, but it was hilarious. Poor thing.
LUNCHTIME:
Time to go home. Dylan and Addisons feet were total prunes. You would think that they would be exhausted on the way home, but maybe our usual stop to the "dippin dots" stand gave them that extra energy to be goofy the whole way.

Steves parents Bedroom
So Steves mom and dad just bought a new bedroom set, partially. They don't have all the pieces yet, but they have the bed/bedding and that is what counts. I chose a color from a grey palette to accent this wall. We had some discussion about it because they didn't believe me that it would come out the blue/green color that is so popular. But it does. If you choose a color that looks like it will match the blue/green, you end up with a bright blue that belongs in a babies room. This color turns out warm and wonderful

Steve Parents "wall of shame"
I went to San Antonio last Wednesday to spend sometime with the in-laws. Steves mom wanted me to paint some walls for her. I thought that I would try and talk her in to changing things around a little bit while I was there. I was surprised that she let me do it. I think she may change a lot of it back, but I got the satisfaction of doing it; even if it was short term.
This hallway has always been referred to as the "wall of shame". It has a collaberation of all the pictures of the kids growing up throughout the years. Steves mom has redone this wall a few times to try and make it look better. But sometimes you just have to say goodbye to frames. She had a bunch of new black frames on hand. So I spray painted some of the old, and added them to the new. Here is what we got. I also painted the hallway in a nice wheat color.

Sometimes you have to work with what you have. It can sometimes be painful for a decorator. My aunt works as a decorator in Utah. I talk to her all the time about some of the common frustrations that we experience. She said to me one time, "I just can't work around her baskets and teddy bears." But sometimes the best we can do is improve the situation, not change it all together. This living room is the prime example.

The fireplace is the center of this room. So it was important to clear the clutter and have something reasonable going on here. I moved something around and this is what we came up with. Works for now, but I told her to get a large mirror and picture to go above the fireplace. I bought her a frame to actually frame the matted picture with, a plant, some burgandy balls, and a huge candlestick that brought in that rose color on the opposing wall.

The last wall. So what to do with all the stuff I ended up with at the end of the day? I placed them on the sides of the entertainment center and tried to balance everything out. I spent more time hanging stuff in this room then I did painting the house!

Can you Trust Anyone?
So if you read my blog you have probably read about my entertainment center that wouldn't fit into our house. So, I listed it on Craigs list and "luckily" sold it that night for $1200.
SELLERS BEWARE! So this guy that emails me says that he is over seas and really interested in the furniture. He told me that he would send me a cashiers check w/ extra money included to pay his shippers. (He wanted his shippers to ship the unit to his home before he got back into the state.) So I figured "cashiers check" all is well.
He sent the check to me and Steve recieved it yesterday. Okay, so talk about being watched out for: Steve also recieved a cashiers check that we had ordered from our Credit Union which so happens to be America First in Utah. The cashiers check that was from the overseas guy happened to be from America First in Utah! What are the chances?
So Steve opens the checks, but they look just a little different. The weight and color are a little different. But they came from the same place? Everything looks the same down to the watermarks. The guy had sent an additional $2000 to pay his shippers. We wonder what costs $2000 to ship? So Steve decided to call our Credit Union. THE CHECK IS NOT LEGIT!
However, if I would have taken it to Chase bank here in TX, they would have cashed it for me, no questions asked. I would have then given the extra $2000 to the "shippers" and the merchandise. It would come back on me a couple weeks later that the cashiers check was fraudulent and I would be in a heap of a mess. Not only would I be out my furniture, but also the $2000!
So now we are in the middle of a big FBI mess. Plus these guys have my address. I am so freaked right now. I couldn't even sleep last night. I know that our family is being watched out for though. If we wouldn't have recieved the "real" check from America First on the same day, we would have assumed the the fake check was real. I hope that Austin Police/FBI can bust these guys. I think I want to move now. I hope that they don't live anywhere near Austin.

SMART?
Michaela and I pulled up next to this car last Saturday while we were out running errands. I have never seen this car in the states, so I had to get out the ol' camera and take a pic. I looked over at the car next to me and they were watching me take the picture of this SMART car and were laughing histerically. Michaela was embarrassed. She just hasn't figured out how cool I am yet.
These also come in a convertable! Can you imagine getting in a wreck in this car? Who is going to win. I don't know how SMART it really is. I think I would rather be STUPID and safe in my SUV, then be SMART and save $1200 a year on gas. Thoughts?

Monterey Ranch 2nd Bedroom
This was the 2nd bedroom in the model. Not a whole lot changed, but a big difference. Most of the bedding came from Target, clearanced. The duvet is from BB&B which you gotta love! I spray painted quite a bit in this room including the chair and hat rack. If you use a nice beige spray paint, let it dry, then go over it with a rag and some stain - you get a great aged effect. You would never know that these had been spray painted!

Monterey Ranch Bedroom
This is the master bedroom. Things were quite outdated in this whole apartment. I would have like to have put a tealish blue on the walls (like in my own house), but I was choosing colors that we thought residents would want in their own apartment. This is what we ended up with. I love this bedding by Nate Burkus.

Monterey Ranch Dining
Here was the dining room in the same apartment. Everything is open to each other, so I took the same accent color and put it in the dining so that it would flow. The accent colors are actually available to residents for a small fee. I am sure that the painters love that I gave them this great red to choose from. When they move out, it has to be primed and painted over everytime. They probably hate me!

Dining Room
Oh, I will eventually get it all on here. Here is our crazy dining room. My goal is to get rid of this table and hutch in the next couple of years and buy a baby grand to put in here. It doesn't really get used as an eating establishment very often. But for now, this works.
I bought the table and chairs from Ebay in Houston a few years ago. It used to be pine and my mom and I painted it black and recovered the chairs. Not a bad set for $300. The hutch came from an old apartment model that I refurbished.
